Pet Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy

All About Pet Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy at Advanced Pet Care Clinic

At Advanced Pet Care Clinic we are excited about the addition of our rehabilitation space. It has given us room to provide rehabilitation services for the dogs in the area. We've allowed space for an underwater treadmill as well as room for us to do comprehensive musculoskeletal exams, massage therapy, stretching, therapeutic exercises, and work with those patients in a controlled environment.

How Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Can Improve Quality of Life for Dogs

Dr. Tammy Stevenson

Who are the rehabilitation services geared towards?

Rehabilitation services really are geared towards a lot of different patients. Some of them are young animals with injuries or post-surgical issues that need to have a little extra work to get them back on their feet. Some of those patients are older animals that may have neurological issues or back problems. We also work with geriatrics in pain management and arthritic patients.

What is a common issue you see with older dogs?

One of the common things we see is older dogs sometimes get put off to the wayside. There's a notion that all of your issues are because you're old, and just because you're old doesn't mean that we can't do things to help you. So, we are big in pain management.

What are a lot of the rehab services geared toward?

A lot of the rehab services are geared toward those patients to help increase their strength, increase their range of motion, and decrease their pain so they can still get up and function.

What is your goal for older dogs in rehabilitation?

We're not looking to make them a puppy again, but we want them to be able to get up, get outside, go to the bathroom, maybe go for walks with the owners, and have a relatively normal function in life. This way, owners aren't feeling the need to put them to sleep because they just can't get up and move around anymore.
