Your Kitten’s Vaccine & Wellness Schedule
Setting your kitten up for a lifetime of health. Kittens need a series of vaccines and wellness checks to build strong, lasting immunity. Here’s what to expect during their first few visits and why each one matters.
First Kitten Visit: 6–9 Weeks Old
What we do:
- FVRCP Vaccine: Protects against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia are serious viruses that cause respiratory illness and life-threatening infections.
- FeLV/FIV Test (Feline Leukemia & Feline Immunodeficiency Virus): A simple blood test that checks for two contagious, lifelong viruses.
- FeLV can cause immune suppression and cancer.
- FIV affects the immune system similar to HIV in people.
- Knowing your kitten’s status early helps us protect them and any other cats in your household.
- Fecal Test: Screens for intestinal parasites (worms, coccidia, giardia) that can affect both pets and people.
- Optional FeLV Vaccine: Recommended for kittens that go outdoors or live with other cats.
Second Visit: ~12 Weeks Old (3 Weeks Later)
- FVRCP Booster: Strengthens immunity from the first round.
- FeLV Vaccine (if applicable): First dose for protection against Feline Leukemia Virus.
- Fecal Recheck: Ensures your kitten is parasite-free.
Third Visit: ~15–16 Weeks Old (3 Weeks Later)
- FVRCP Final Booster: Provides full immunity for the year.
- FeLV Booster (if applicable): Completes the leukemia protection series.
- Rabies Vaccine: Required by law; protects against the fatal rabies virus.
- Schedule Spay/Neuter: Usually done around 5–6 months of age to prevent unwanted litters and reduce behavioral and health risks.
Six-Month Visit
- Spay or Neuter Surgery: Keeps your cat healthier and happier long-term.
- Wellness Check: Review diet, behavior, and parasite prevention to make sure your kitten is thriving.
Kitten Care Tips
