Advanced Imaging for Better Answers

UltrasoundAt Advanced Pet Care Clinic, we are proud to offer diagnostic ultrasound services performed by Dr. Melendez. Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging tool that allows us to evaluate internal organs and structures in real time, helping us diagnose and monitor a variety of medical conditions.

Unlike X-rays, which provide a static image, ultrasound allows us to assess the movement, size, shape, and appearance of organs such as the liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, intestines, and reproductive organs.

Advanced Ultrasound Training

Dr. Melendez has completed advanced training in veterinary ultrasonography, expanding our ability to provide detailed diagnostic evaluations right here at Advanced Pet Care Clinic. Through specialized education and hands-on instruction, she has developed the skills necessary to perform comprehensive abdominal ultrasounds and assist in the diagnosis of complex medical conditions.

This additional training allows us to provide advanced diagnostic imaging locally, often reducing the need for referral and helping pets receive answers more quickly.

When Is an Ultrasound Recommended?

Your veterinarian may recommend an ultrasound if your pet is experiencing:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Weight loss
  • Changes in appetite
  • Abdominal pain or swelling
  • Elevated liver or kidney values
  • Urinary issues
  • Suspected masses or tumors
  • Fluid accumulation in the abdomen
  • Reproductive concerns
  • Ongoing medical conditions that require monitoring

What to Expect

Most ultrasound examinations are performed with pets lying comfortably on a padded surface while a small area of fur is clipped to allow for better image quality. Sedation is rarely required, and the procedure is generally well tolerated.

Following the examination, Dr. Melendez will review the findings and discuss any recommended next steps, treatment options, or additional diagnostics.

The Benefits of Ultrasound

  • Non-invasive and painless
  • No radiation exposure
  • Real-time imaging of internal organs
  • Helps diagnose conditions earlier
  • Assists with treatment planning and monitoring
  • Often provides answers that cannot be obtained through X-rays alone
